Nestled on a sprawling six acres and surrounded by snow-capped mountain views, The Imperial is believed to be one of the finest townhome communities in South Surrey or at least on Mountain View Drive.
As winter approaches, there are some tasks to attend to in order to protect your home from the cold temperatures.
There is an outdoor water tap, located on the front and rear of your townhome. The shutoff handle is about 1.5" wide and red in colour1. One shut off can be found under the powder room or basement sink (depending on your unit), and one will be under the kitchen sink.
Look for a similar type of handle as shown in the diagram below. It will be separate from the shut-off that feeds the cold water to your sink faucet.
After closing the valve, remove your hose and fully open the valve at your hose bibs to drain any water in the line. Empty the water from your hose, and store inside for the winter to prevent any unnecessary stress from freezing temperatures.
As temperatures start to drop to the freezing level, shut off these two valves, then release any residual pressure in the line by opening the taps.
1 Note that the red handle may have been sprayed white, but it should resemble the diagram.
