The Need For Reduced Speed

Bylaw 37(3): A maximum speed of 10 km/h shall apply within the common property.

A number of people have voiced concerns about an increase in the speed of vehicles going through the complex. Please consider that there are children, families, and pets that may be walking, and there are several blind spots beyond which it’s impossible see what might be coming. For everyone’s safety, it is imperative that vehicles are driven more slowly.

The council has obtained quotes for speed bumps to be installed. No one enjoys having to go over speed bumps, but this is simply not a problem that can be ignored when people’s safety is at jeopardy. Speed bumps will cost close to $4,500 to be installed, and it can be expected that there will be ongoing costs associated to maintenance and repair, especially during the winter when there are snow plows coming through that may cause damage.

Slowing down will only add mere seconds to one’s destination, and we are hoping that residents would prefer adjusting to a reduced speed over the cost and annoyance of speed bumps
